Passing the Advanced Qualification Exam (70% pass mark) allows you to use full legal power, build your own transmitting equipment and set up repeater systems as well as full access to the HF bands. Start Date: Starting January 14, 2019.
Time: 6:45 PM – 9:00 PM
Duration: Monday evenings for 16 weeks (16 evenings total not including Stat Holidays if required).
Place: RockPointe Church – BowRidge 12 BowRidge Drive Northwest, Calgary, AB Fire Side Room
Exam: Advanced Qualification exam included, taken on the last evening
Cost: Regular tuition is $65.00. (Course fee only)
Note: Tuition includes photocopied course materials ($15.00 value),and Advanced Qualification test by accredited examiner (would cost $20 if test taken at Industry Canada).
The test is 50 multiple choice questions covering Radio electronics and setup of Amateur Station and Repeaters, Operating Modes, Antennas, Operating practices, and theory.
The pass mark is 70% for Advanced Qualification. There is a "Practice Exam Generator" software program that can be accessed from the ISED web site athttp://www.ic.gc.ca/eic/site/025.nsf/eng/h_00040.html
This will give you an idea of what to expect.
The Advanced qualification is a technical upgrade with a deeper look at radio, electronics and advanced amateur modes. The class will involve demos and hands-on where possible. A collaborative model is followed with expert peer presentations. Student participation is expected both in questions and lessons. Good attendance and reading/study between classes are needed to be successful. If you do not complete the course, your course fee covers you for any future CARA Advanced course.
