CARA Needs a Few More Good Men & Women to Represent Us at this Weekend's Maker Faire

Thank you all who have stepped forward, so far, to represent CARA at this weekend’s Maker Faire at Acadia Recreation Complex.

    240 - 90 Ave SE, Calgary

2026 May 2 and 3, Saturday and Sunday.

If you would like to be an amateur radio representative at CARA’s exhibit at this year’s Maker Faire,

please reach out to Peter at VA6RPL@techworld.ca .

I will be on site Friday evening, and Saturday and Sunday from open to close.

I will be bringing the comm trailer to the ARC on the Friday afternoon.

    Here’s the roster so far:

It would be good to have at least two amateur radio representatives at our exhibit for each shift.

Friday 5-8 PM move-in and set up: need volunteers

We will be setting up the comm trailer, including the Yagi.

We will also be setting up the 10’x10’ market tent.

    Saturday:

    10:00 – 13:30 Peter Barry VA6PJB

    13:30 – 17:00 maybe Garry Spicer VE6GDS

    Sunday:

    10:00 – 13:30 Harry Maylor VE6HRY, John Allen VA6SJA

    13:30 – 17:00 Ken Hill VE6AGD

For any DIY'r amateur radio operators out there, this is a fab opportunity to not only show what you have made to support your hobby, but also to see other high tech projects that people have been working on. Free admission to the Faire if you are volunteering at CARA's exhibit. Reach out to Peter VA6RPL 'VA6RPL at techworld.ca' if you have a project you can exhibit, or if you would like to represent amateur radio makers at our CARA booth.

It has been years since I went to one of these faires. There is something for any kind of tinkering you might want to learn about. Looking forward to this one.

CARA is an exhibitor at the 2026 Maker Faire in Calgary.  The emphasis is not so much on what the various technologies are in amateur radio but more on what we build to support our hobby.

Contact Peter at VA6RPL@techworld.ca if you would like to be an amateur radio representative at our display on the Saturday or Sunday, or to help set up and tear down our display on the Friday and Sunday late afternoon.  We will set up the comm trailer and the CARA market tent.  We also want displays on activities like antenna building, 3D printing, Arduinos, Raspberry Pi, and radio transmission, ... .

The venue is the Acadia Recreation Centre in SE Calgary.

The web site for the event is:  www.calgary.makerfaire.com
